Harris, California

Harris (formerly, Dogtown and Spruce Grove[1]) is an locality[1] in Humboldt County, California. It is located 7 miles (11 km) west-southwest of Alderpoint,[1] at an elevation of 2,238 feet (682 m).[2]

The Harris post office opened in 1882, having been transferred from Dark Canyon, was located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) north of the current townsite.[1] The post office moved to town in 1946, and closed for good in 1974.[1] The name honors William C. Harris, its first postmaster.[1]
