Harris Khalique (Urdu: حارث خلیق) (born 20 October 1966) based in Islamabad, Pakistan, is a poet writing in Urdu and English. He has eight collections of verse and a book of creative non-fiction behind him. Some of his Urdu and English poems with German translation are available online.
Early life
Harris Khalique was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on 20 October 1966 to a writer-filmmaker father, Khalique Ibrahim Khalique, and a writer-teacher mother, Hamra Khalique. He attended Public School Karachi Cantt., D.J. Sindh Government Science College and N.E.D. University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi, before doing his master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science,[1] London, UK. He lived, worked and studied in Europe for some time before settling down in Islamabad in 2001.
Career
His collection of poetry, Ishq Ki Taqveem Mein (Urdu) was well received. He also won the ‘UBL Literary Excellence Award 2013’ in the category of Urdu poetry for his collection of verse Melay Mein (Urdu).
Harris Khalique’s interests straddle South Asian politics, human rights and international development. He has contributed to newspapers and magazines in Pakistan and abroad for more than 25 years with a weekly column in The News International for eight years.
He is currently, working with Development Alternative Inc. (DAI) as a consultant[2]
