Hasan Abad (Persian: Hasan Ābād – حسن آباد‎‎) is an old and historical area within the Monirie District of Tehran, Iran. There is also a square in the area which carries the same name. The square was composed of four identical buildings, each covering one corner of the square.

History

The area was originally developed during the reign of the Qajar Dynasty. The square was built by the order of Mirza Yusef Ashtiani, the vizier of Naser ed Din Shah, and was named after his son, Mirza Hasan Ashtiani, who then became the Prime Minister of Iran for a period.[1][2]

Following the 1979 Revolution, the square was renamed to 31st of Shahrivar; but however, the new name did not stick and it is still known as Hasan Abad.

After the revolution, the Iranian Cultural Heritage Organization (ICHO) re-constructed several of the buildings in the square. As part of the reconstruction, they added two additional modern floors onto the old structure.
