Hawaii Technology Academy (HTA) is a public charter school located in the state of Hawaii.
About
Hawaii Technology Academy uses a blended learning model. There are thirteen sites across the state’s islands, with the largest Learning Center on Oahu. HTA provides students with a combination of face-to-face and online instruction. The online curriculum is complemented by the intellectual and creative resources of on-site teachers and Learning Coaches (adults responsible for mentoring, monitoring and motivating students’ learning—often times the parent). Partnering with Learning Coaches, HTA students have access to Hawaii State certified educators. Educators provide leveled interventions and enrichments to all students based on student specific personalized learning plans.
Mission
We empower students to succeed through our blended learning experience – face-to-face, virtual and independent.
Vision
A community embracing the challenges of today and the opportunities of tomorrow.
Curriculum
Hawaii Technology Academy provides a comprehensive curriculum aligned to the Hawaii State Standards and the National Common Core State Standards. Online curriculum is blended with virtual and face-to-face teacher created instruction. Learning Coaches help create a successful academic environment for our students, when working from home.
Activities
Students at Hawaii Technology Academy have many opportunities to interact both socially and academically, as they would in any other school. In addition to classroom interaction and socializing during the school day, students have the ability to participate in after-school clubs, sports, student government and other extracurricular activities.
Location
HTA's main office and primary learning center is currently located in Waipahu, Hawaii. HTA operates across the entire state, with learning centers in Hilo and Kona, as well as other learning locations across Maui and Kauai.
Population
Total enrollment for the 2014-2015 school year was 1123 students. There were 748 students in grades K-8 and 375 students in high school. HTA serves a diverse population of students, across all of the major islands.
Technology
HTA uses a "Bring Your Own Device" (BYOD) structure for computer usage, provided the computer meets certain minimum specifications. All students are required to have a computer in order to utilize the online curriculum and various online tools and resources.
HTA also has a computer loan program for students. The laptops vary in manufacturer and style, based on the students' needs, as determined by their grade and course load.
Various online platforms are used for face-to-face, virtual and independent coursework. Follow the links below to learn more.
