Becker's father was Dr. Johannes Heinrich Becker, a German immigrant and member of the German Nazi Party who attempted to form a Nazi Party of Australia but was removed as state leader in 1936. During the Second World War, Becker's father was interned by the Australian authorities and expelled from the country at the end of the war.[2]
