Hemachandra Wijeratne (also known as Hema Wijeratne, Lofty Wijeratne was former Sri Lanka's Consul General in Turkey.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
Hema was born to Walpola Mudalige George Hercules Wijeratne and Rosalind Maria Senanayake. His elder brother was former Cabinet Minister General Ranjan Wijeratne.[4][5] He wad educated at Nalanda College, Colombo. While at school he was a keen cricketer playing for Nalanda first XI team.[6][7][8][9] Hema was a fellow of Chartered Insurance Institute of United Kingdom.
Career
Wijeratne began a career as a Tea taster, holding many high positions in the tea pantation sectors of Sri Lanka. Hema was also former Chairman of Colombo Tea Traders’ Association and Director of Carson Cumberbatch & Company.[10] Hema Wijeratne was the founder and inaugural President of The Sri Lanka Insuarance Institute.[11]
