Henri M. J. Boffin is a Belgian astronomer from the European Southern Observatory.[2] Between 1999 and 2001, he discovered 10 minor planets, some in collaboration with Thierry Pauwels.[3] This makes him one of the top 500 minor planet discoverers.[3] The asteroid 37392 Yukiniall was named after his children in 2001.[4]
Henri Boffin received his PhD in 1993 from the Université libre de Bruxelles for his work on the formation of barium stars and his since gone on to work on a variety of problems in the study of binary stars.[5] Most recently, he has dedicated his time to the study of binary stars in planetary nebulae, including discovering the binary central star of Fleming 1,[6] and the use of optical interferometry to study mass-transfer.[7]
He is also extremely active in science communication, having been coordinator of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 Gigagalaxy Zoom project [8] as well as being interviewed about his work in a wide range of publications.[9]
