Plasmodium pteropti is a currently (2007) considered to be a species of the genus Hepatocystis rather than Plasmodium.
The vertebrate hosts for this parasite are mammals.
Description
This species was described by Breinl in 1912 in the black flying fox (Pteropus gouldi) and by Mackie in 1914 in the common flying fox (Pteropus edwarsi).
