Herbert Macauley "Mac" McEver was a former head coach of the Virginia Tech college football program from 1942-1945. He played football from 1925 to 1928 as part of the famed "Pony Express" offensive backfield. From 1933 to 1939, he served as the school's head baseball coach. He was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 1980 and the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame, which he helped organize, in 1983. He was the older brother of famed University of Tennessee football star Gene McEver.
