Heroic Corps

The Heroic Corps (hangul : 의열단) was formed in 1919. This is one of many organizations from the Japanese colonial period. The Heroic Corps was the most radical of the organizations, and their activists believed in revolution by the people directly and equalitarianism. After the 1919 Independence Movement, many independence activists were moving their bases to foreign countries. However, members of the Heroic Corps thought that those organizations showed too moderate an attitude that couldn't help independence in Korea at all. They opposed all compromising solutions such as culturism, and they strongly urged a violent revolution. The Manifesto of the Korean Revolution(hangul: 조선혁명선언)> written by independence activist Shin Chae-ho clearly reflected these aspects of their goals and plans for action.[1] Therefore, they struggled for independence by assassinating high-ranking Japanese officials and committing acts of terrorism against government offices. However, as time passed, their movement evolved with the spirit of the times.
