George W. Hewlett High School (commonly known as Hewlett High School) is a four-year public high school in Hewlett, New York, which is a part of the Five Towns area of the South Shore of Long Island. The school is the only high school in the Hewlett-Woodmere School District (District 14). The principal is Theodore Fulton, Ed.D.[3]

As of the 2009-10 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,078 students and 93.80 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 11.49.[1]

Academics

Hewlett is a National Academy of Music Arts and Sciences school and is one of three Nassau County Districts "that is certified as a CISCO CCNA Academy.".[4] There are 18 different Advanced Placement Program (AP) courses and several different courses for college credit through Syracuse University and Long Island University.

Extracurricular activities

The school newspaper is the Spectrum.

Some of the long-standing traditions in the school include Cabaret Night (raises funds for the Laura Rosenberg fund at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center) and the Rock and Wrap it Up campaign.

There is an active drama program (including a chapter of the International Thespian Society (ITS). School Clubs include chapters of the National Honor Society and DECA. Other activities include a Student Council, Model Congress and Mock Trial teams and various language clubs.

The Art Club is also an active program in HHS, where many students get together to create art. In 2011, the Hewlett Art club was asked to help out at a fundraiser for a program held at the Seawane Country Club.

The football field plays host to Turkeybowl - an annual football game dedicated to the memory of Adam Barsel, played by the graduates of the class of 2003.

The Stock Market Club has about 150 members as of Fall 2014.

Athletics

The sports teams' nickname (and mascot) is the Bulldogs. Previously the nickname was the Bluejackets - after the sailors who wore blue pea coat jackets in the U.S. Navy.

Notable alumni

Many of Hewlett High School's more distinguished alumni have been recognized by plaques on the school's walls that name them as members of the school's Alumni Hall of Fame.[5] The following are among the school's notable former students:
