Hindustan University is a university of engineering headquartered in Chennai, India. It was founded in 1985 by K. C. G. Verghese as Hindustan College of Engineering and was granted university status from the University Grants Commission in 2008 as the Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS), which it still uses as a subtitle.

Location

The campus is situated in the south eastern suburb of Chennai, Padur. The University is on the main arterial road Rajiv Gandhi IT Highway (also called Old Mahabalipuram Road). It is close to SIPCOT IT park, Siruseri which is about 25 km from the Chennai City and is also accessible by East coast Road through Kovalam.

The University is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which is the Statutory Body for accreditation of educational institutions in India and is an Autonomous Institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India. National Board of Accreditation, New Delhi (All India Council for Technical Education) has accredited the following undergraduate and postgraduate courses:

Sports

Hindustan University assigns top priority to sports activities and encourages students who are sportspersons by providing them a complete scholarship for studies. The University has excellent state-of-the-art infrastructure for sports and provides professional coaching in sports to students. Apart from scholarships the university also completely sponsors the tournament expenditure of students.

Hostels and boarding

Hindustan University has separate hostels for boys and girls with well furnished rooms and modern amenities. There are seven hostels within the campus catering to the needs of the students. The hostel is managed by Dean –Admin, Chief Warden, Hostel Manager & Wardens (Residential and Non-residential)

Transport

The University is on the main arterial road to the Chennai city. Scores of public transport buses ply before the University campus and many day scholars use this service. Comfortable air conditioned buses are also available. The University operates a fleet of 50 buses to all the important city spots for the benefit of students and staff. The services of University buses are utilized for industrial visits, and excursions.
