HireAHelper is a website that connects individuals looking to move with temporary workers, vehicles, and other aspects of moving.[1]
History
The founder and CEO of the Oceanside, California based company and website is Mike Glanz.[1] Founded in 2007, the website initially only compared the costs of full-service moving companies, and then evolved to compare the individuated costs of each aspect of a move. Within the first five years, the site had about one hundred thousand users.[2] The company’s website is free for users. The process involves inputting the moving date and zip codes involved, and the site then provides reviews on and cost comparisons of different providers of moving trucks, moving containers, and moving labor. It was the first website to allow consumers to design their own moves, in lieu of using moving companies to arrange them as a package.[3]
Finances
The company has received funding from Lighter Capital.[1][4] As of 2014 the company had done $22 million in sales, with $10 million coming over the last year. The company was sued by UHaul soon after its formation for trademark infringement, however the suit was settled out of court.[5] The suit was considered by some in the technology press as vague and an attempt to quash a potential market disruptor.[6]
