Historic Church of Cúcuta
The Historic church of Cúcuta is in the locality of Villa del Rosario (Cúcuta) where Simón Bolívar, Francisco de Paula Santander and other important persons of the independence of Colombia and Venezuela reunited to sign the Constitution of Cúcuta on 30 August 1821, whose main target was the creation of one republic unifying New Granada (Colombia and Panama) and Venezuela. Later, Ecuador was integrated to the unification.
Inside of the church there is a statue of Simón Bolivar. At the moment the building is part of the Park of the Great Colombia. Due to the Earthquake of Cúcuta that happened on 18 May 1875, the church is in ruins.[1]
