Homex is a Mexican construction and real estate company engaged in the development, construction and sale of affordable entry-level, middle-income and tourism housing in Mexico and Brazil. Founded in Culiacán, the state capital of Sinaloa in 1989, the company started operations developing commercial areas gradually focusing on design, construction and commercialization of homes. The company is headquartered in Culiacán and its listed in the Mexican Stock Exchange.[1]

2007 The Company purchased a new construction technology based on aluminum moulds.

2006 In January the Company completed its secondary public offering of approximately 46 million shares of its common stock. The public float of the company increased to 46% of the total equity of Homex.

2005 At the end of the third quarter the Company announced the placement of a private offering of US$250 million of Senior Guaranteed Notes. On July 1 Homex completed the acquisition of Casas Beta and become the largest homebuilder in Mexico in terms of operating profit and net income. On April 21 Homex announces agreement to acquire Casas Beta through a merger

2004 Completion of the dual listing of shares on the New York Stock Exchange and Mexican Bolsa

2003 Homex expands into Middle Income housing developments

2002 Equity International Properties acquires a minority stake

1999 ZN Mexico Funds acquires a minority stake

1993 Strategic planning and geographic expansion is intensified and the development of proprietary information systems is started.

Managerial practices

Homex consists of four divisions: Mexico Division, International Division, Government Division and Tourism Division.[5] Currently (2011.12.31), the Company ownes such subsidiaries as Casas Beta del Centro S de RL de CV, Hogares de Noroeste SA de CV, Homex Amueblate SA de CV, Homex Global SA de CV, Sofhomex SA de CV SFOMER, Homex Atizapan SA de CV and Altos Mandos de Negocios SA de CV, among others.[3]

Bankruptcy protection

In the present time the company has a bankruptcy protection (concurso mercantil) process [6] by a record debt of 98 billions of Mexican pesos,[7] be the largest liability recognized by a company that enters this legal figure.
