Hoplostethus cadenati, the black slimehead, is a member of the family Trachichthyidae. It is found along the coast of northwest Africa from Cape Verde down to South Africa.[1] It lives near the bottom of the ocean in deep water between 200m and 700m, but can be found up to 70m and down to 1000m.[1] It can reach lengths of up to 30cm.[1]
