Shelter allowance

The terms Shelter allowance, housing supplement, or shelter supplement are used by various city and state governments in the United States and Canada to refer to financial assistance programs designed to help low-income households that are forced to spend too much of their budget on rent.

An example is New York City's Family Eviction Prevention Supplement program.
