Hovanes Margarian Esq. (Armenian Հովհաննես Մարգարյան) is an American consumer protection attorney and litigator, founder and lead council of The Margarian Law Firm and co-founder of NexusLab Inc. (an Inc.5000 Company.[1]
Early Life and Education
Hovanes Margarian is of Armenian heritage and was born in Yerevan, Armenia. His family moved to the US when he was 13 years old. Margarian graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in Biological Sciences in 2002 and earned his Juris Doctor degree at the USC Gould School of Law in 2006.[2]
Career
Hovanes Margarian started his early academic career with interest in science and medicine. He published his first scholarly article while in high school around his chemistry project on the topic of “An Inexpensive Microscale Method for Measuring Vapor Pressure, Associated Thermodynamic Variables, and Molecular Weight”.[3]
As a USC McNair Scholar he began working on his next research project on “Transduction of Human Hematopoietic Stem Cells..[4]
Mr Margarian’s research findings were later published in the Journal of Molecular Therapy under the title: “Expression from Second-Generation Feline Immunodeficiency Virus Vectors Is Impaired in Human Hematopoietic Cells”.[5]
A little wager with a friend during his study in the USC made Hovanes Margarian take the LSAT examination and later pursue a career in law.[6] Mr. Margarian obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the USC Gould School of Law in 2006.
The Margarian Law Firm
Immediately after graduating from the law school, Margarian established the Law Offices of Hovanes Margarian, which was subsequently renamed to The Margarian Law Firm.[7]
For the first 7 years of his practice, Mr. Margarian has exclusively litigated major Auto Dealer Fraud, California Lemon Law and Class Action cases. Currently the firm is a full service entity with 7 attorneys with different specialties.
Major Cases
City of Los Angeles – In a multimillion-dollar class action lawsuit City of Los Angeles was ordered to pay out millions of dollars to the residents of the city for improperly overcharging solid waste collection, i.e. trash, fees for years.[8][9]
Audi Class Action – In an ongoing class action lawsuit, Audi/Volkswagen Automotive Group is being accused of manufacturing and distributing around 5 million vehicle with defective engines that over-consume motor oil leading to serious problems.[10][11]
Business Ventures
In May 2002 Mr. Margarian and his brother, Armen Margarian, co-founded AutoIntel – an automotive enterprise for individual vehicle brokerage and corporate fleet management.
From 2006 Mr. Margarian was a co-founder and general council for numerous ventures in the United States and Eastern Europe under the NexusLab brand.
Public Service
USC Downtoan Alumni Association
Mr. Margarian was elected the first president of the USC Downtown Alumni.[12]
Margarian Scholarship
Since 2013 the Margarian Scholarship was granted to a select number of outstanding students for their academic and personal achievements. The total scholarship ranges from $5,000 to $10,000 every year. The Deadline for the scholarship in sometime in May of every year and the winners are announced in August.[13][14][15]
Armenian Bar Association
Mr. Margarian has been a member of the Armenian Bar Association. He has served 3 consecutive terms as a Member of the Board of Governors.
