Huaihai Institute of Technology

Huaihai Institute of Technology (HHIT)[1] also known as Huaihai University is located at the intersection of the maritime silk road of the 21st century and the eastern bridgehead of Euro-Asia continents. The main campus lies at the foot of Huaguo Mountain, the setting of one of the four greatest Chinese classical novels, Journey to the West.[2] Huaihai Institute of Technology is the only comprehensive public educational institution in Lianyungang, administrated by Jiangsu Province.[3]

History

In 1985, Huaihai Institute of Technology was first named as Huaihai University by General Secretary of the Communist Party, Hu Yaobang,[4] positioned as one of the leading universities in Northern region of Jiangsu Province. After merging with Jiangsu Salt Industry College, Lianyungang Aquaculture College and Lianyungang Chemical Technical College, the university was transformed into Huaihai Institute of Technology in 2002.[5]

Academics and athletics

The institute is organized by 15 schools which are School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Marine, School of Computer Engineering, School of Maxism Studies, School of Physical Education, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Science, Schoolof Business, School of Electronic Engineering, School of Applied Technology, School of Arts, School of Law, School of Geodetic and Geomatics Engineering, School of Continuing Education and School of Chinese Language and Literature.[6]

The institute implemented degree completion programs in the Donggang Campus in 2008.

The dragon boat team defeated teams from National University of Singapore, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and other Asia universities, and endorsed as the champion team in Fushan, Asian University Dragon Boat Championship in 2015.

Faculty

18,644 undergraduate and graduate students are currently studying at HHIT, instructed by 1,483 full-time faculty.[5]

Overseas study

HHIT offers study abroad programs which range from short term summer programs to long term semester programs. HHIT signed 2+2 program with Kansai University and also provides exchange programs with prestigious universities from South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.[5]
