Human isolation
In human context, isolation may refer to:
- Remote and isolated community, a community that lacks the transportation links that would otherwise be considered normal
- Solitude, a state of seclusion or isolation, i.e., lack of contact with people
- Isolation (psychology), a defence mechanism in psychoanalytic theory first proposed by Sigmund Freud
- Uncontacted tribes, people in isolation from the outside world
- Isolation effect or Von Restorff effect, a psychological effect of distinctive items more easily 'remembered'
- Incarceration, forcible confinement with a variety of denied freedoms under the authority of the state
- Isolation tank, a lightless, soundproof tank inside which subjects float in salt water at skin temperature
- Solitary confinement, a special form of imprisonment in which a prisoner is isolated from any human contact
