Christopher Dooley, Jr. (born March 7, 1989), better known by his stage name Hurricane Chris, is an American rapper from Shreveport, Louisiana. In his career, during the early years, he was best known for his debut single "A Bay Bay"; which was a highly critically successful, when it scored top 10 on the charts.
In 2007, he released these tracks: "A Bay Bay" and "The Hand Clap", as the album's official singles, before releasing his major-label debut album 51/50 Ratchet. The album debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200. On December 21, 2009, Chris released his second album Unleashed, while preceding by two singles: "Halle Berry (She's Fine)" and "Headboard".
Early life
Christopher Dooley, Jr. was born on March 7, 1989, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dooley attended Huntington High School, where he would dropped out of school to begin pursuing his music career.
Career
2007–09: 51/50 Ratchet and Unleashed
On May 28, 2007, Chris released his official debut single, titled "A Bay Bay"; with the production handled by Phunk Dawg.
On August 8, 2007, he released his second single for his debut album, titled "The Hand Clap". Producer Phunk Dawg also handled the production on this song (the same producer, who did the work on Chris' critically successful debut single "A Bay Bay").
On August 17, 2007, Chris promoted for his debut album, with the release of his official debut mixtape Louisi-Animal; hosted by Don Cannon. The tape includes the remix to "A Bay Bay", which features guest vocals from these rappers The Game, Lil Boosie, E-40, Baby, Angie Locc (whom is a member of the group, called The Lava House) and Jadakiss. In this version, the song has added the new verse by then-his Polo Grounds' label-mate and fellow rapper C-Ride. This remixed-version also was rumored to be included on his first album.
On October 23, 2007, Chris released his debut album 51/50 Ratchet. It was released by Polo Grounds Music; distributed by J Records. The album debuted at number 24 on the US Billboard 200, selling 26,000 copies in the first week.
On March 3, 2009, he released his first single for his second album, titled "Halle Berry (She's Fine)". The song features guest vocals from a fellow local rapper Superstarr; whom also produced it on this song, alongside its production by Play-N-Skillz and Q Smith.
On September 8, 2009, Chris released the second single for his second album, titled "Headboard", after it had leaked online earlier during that year. The song features guest vocals from American singer Mario and a fellow rapper Plies, with the production handled by The Inkredibles.
On December 21, 2009, Chris released his second album Unleashed. The album peaked at number 46 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and number 20 on the US Top Rap Albums charts, respectively. It did not charted internationally.
2010–present: Departure from Polo Grounds Music and third studio album
In 2010, Chris parting ways with Polo Grounds Music. Chris announced that his third album is on the works with the title, called Showtime: Still 51/50. He announced that this album will be released under his record label, that he created, called 51/50 Entertainment; which distributed by FyreHouse Entertainment. It was then reported that he was in the studio working on his third album with artists. The production would be provided by his longtime collaborator Phunk Dawg, alongside DubMagic Roe, also with these several high-profile producers such as Shawty Redd, DJ Spinz, 1500 or Nothin', Seven and Mr. Bangladesh, among others. In 2010, he also has been releasing several of his mixtapes.
On March 12, 2012, Chris' new track, titled "Bend It Over", was released on YouTube. It was released as his first single for his third album, via iTunes. On May 25, 2012, in an interview with AllHipHop, he announced the official title for his third album, called Return of the Hurricane. In December 2012, the videos were released for these tracks: "I Don't F*ck with Yall" and "Ball Out", in promotion for his next mixtape, titled Caniac. The tape was released on January 2, 2013.[1][2] The couple of videos would later be released for songs such as "Down South" and "Pu**y on Me".
On January 11, 2014, Chris has released this new single, titled "Ratchet". The song was produced by DJ Mustard. On January 16, the song was officially released via iTunes. On May 11, 2014, he has released the re-edited version of "Ratchet", featuring a new verse from the fellow Louisiana-native rapper Boosie Badazz.[3]
On August 21, 2015, Chris announced the release of his new single, titled "Sections". The song features guest vocals from American recording artist Ty Dolla Sign, with the production handled by DJ Mustard.[4] The song was featured on his recent mixtape Hurricane Season, which was released on September 4, 2015. The tape also included the production handled from DJ Mustard, Zaytoven, HitMaka! (aka "Yung Berg"), Self Service, Drumma Boy and DubMagic Roe, among others.
Personal life
In an interview with The Advocate's Samantha Morgan, Dooley has spoken about how he came up with the name "Hurricane" (which is a part of his stage name); saying that it was coming from his ability to be rapping fast, and twisting them words "like a hurricane that just blown through."
