John Lewis (Bishop of North Queensland)
Hurtle John Lewis AM[1] (born 2 January 1926) is a retired Australian Anglican bishop.
Lewis was born in Adelaide,[2] the son[3] of a kangaroo shooter.[4] He was educated at Prince Alfred College and the University of London.[5] After World War II service with the Royal Australian Navy he was ordained in 1951.[6] He then held various positions in the Society of the Sacred Mission until he became Bishop of North Queensland in 1971,[7] a position he held until 1996.
