Hussain Yee or Hussein Yee (born 1950) is a Malaysian national of Chinese descent who is a scholar and lecturer on Islam.[1][2]

Background

Early years

Born into a Buddhist family, Hussain Yee converted to Islam in 1968 at the age of 18. He pursued studies at the University of Madinah in Saudi Arabia majoring in Hadith. At the University of Madinah, he studied under the renowned 20th century Islamic scholar Muhammad Nasiruddin al-Albani[2][3] and also had contact with the former Grand Mufti of Saudi-Arabia, Ibn Baaz.

Positions held

After graduating in 1978, he returned to Malaysia joined the Muslim welfare organization, Perkim which focused on the welfare of converts to Islam. He later served as the director of an Islamic centre in Hong Kong.[2]

Yee was a board member of the London-based Islamic Education and Research Academy.

He is currently the president of Al-Khadeem International, a Islamic welfare organization, which he founded in 1984.[1]

In 2015, he gave a keynote address at the Australian Islamic Peace Conference (AIPC), which was attended by religious leaders from Jewish and Christian faiths.[4]

Television appearances

Hussain Yee has featured as a speaker on several Islamic television channels including Bahrain TV, Islam Channel, Peace TV, and Iqra TV.[3]

Controversy and response

Yee has said that that Muslims should not say Muslim terrorists were not responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States, just based on "suspicion.".[5][6][7]

Hussain Ye later responded to the accusations and denied ever saying that “Jews were behind 9/11 attack", and blamed The Australian's inept journalism on arousing hatred of Islam and Islamic scholars.[4]

Personal life

Hussain Yee has a daughter, Wafaa Mohammad Hussain Yee, who teaches tajweed at the Islamic Online University.[8]
