I, Daniel Blake is a 2016 film by British filmmaker Ken Loach. It was shortlisted for the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.[1] The screenplay was written by Loach's frequent collaborator Paul Laverty.
Principal photography began in October 2015 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the surrounding area. The film was produced by Rebecca O'Brien for Sixteen Films, Why Not Productions and Wild Bunch with the support of the British Film Institute and BBC Films.
Synopsis
Daniel Blake is a 59-year-old joiner in the North-East of England who falls ill and requires state assistance. While he endeavours to ovecome the red tape involved in getting this assistance, he meets single mother Katie, who, in order to escape a homeless persons' hostel, must take up residence in a flat 300 miles away.
