"I'll Be" was the second single released from Foxy Brown's debut album, Ill Na Na, produced by the Trackmasters and featuring Jay-Z.
Released on March 4, 1997, "I'll Be" quickly became a huge hit, peaking at 7 on the Billboard Hot 100, at the time becoming both Foxy Brown and Jay-Z's highest charting single. Two months after its release on May 2, "I'll Be" was certified gold by the RIAA for shipments exceeding 500,000;[1] it sold over 800,000 in total.[2] To date it remains Foxy Brown's only solo top 40 single and her only to earn a certification.
The song sampled René & Angela's 1985 hit "I'll Be Good". The official Trackmasters remix also sampled Queen's 1980 hit "Another One Bites The Dust". In the UK, the D&A remix which was played by Radio 1 during its daytime shows sampled Blondie's 1981 hit "Rapture".
In 2008, The song was ranked number 52 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.[3] The music video was directed by Brett Ratner[4]
