IK Multimedia is an international music technology company directly operating in the US, UK, Japan and Italy.[8] Founded in Modena, Italy in 1996,[10] it now operates worldwide with offices in Italy, the US and the UK. The company's best known for products made for music production, creation, live performance and has also expanded to various music segments.[11] The most notable in recent years are their apps and accessories for Apple's iOS platform using Apple's iPhone,[12] iPod Touch and iPad.
Company history
1998-1999
IK released its first product GrooveMaker, a loop-remixing software package, in 1998. 1999 saw the release of T-RackS, an analog-modelled desktop mastering solution.
2000-2004
SampleTank, a multi-timbral, sample-based virtual instrument workstation plug-in, was released in 2001. AmpliTube, a guitar amp and fx plug-in modelling the entire rig for all platforms, is released in 2002. A new version of SampleTank was released, including a resampling engine enabling the user to independently modify the time/pitch/formant parameters of the sound samples. In 2004, IK Multimedia released Amplitube Live and Amplitube LE.[13]
2005-2008
AmpliTube 2 is released in 2005, with several enhancements to the previous version, both in terms of modeling methods and the number of modeled amps and effects. AmpliTube 2 was the basis for subsequent products, such as Ampeg SVX modelling Ampeg bass amplifiers, AmpliTube Jimi Hendrix modeling vintage amps and FX pedals used by the famous guitarist and AmpliTube Metal dedicated entirely to heavy metal gear. In June 2005, a co-branded version of Amplitube UNO with Guitarhoo! was released as a free download.[14] Looking for a way to expand into the hardware market, IK releases StealthPlug, a USB adapter for guitar/bass, in 2006. ARC System, the first acoustic room correction system in a plug-in, follows in 2007 and StompIO, a pedal board capable of controlling the full range of the "Powered by AmpliTube" products, in 2008. X-GEAR followed as the first expandable Guitar/Bass fx system and a preview to the future Custom Shop now found in AmpliTube.
2009
AmpliTube Fender, the first official Fender licensed and approved software simulation of its amps and FX was released. StealthPedal, the first interface/controller in a wah stompbox enclosure with full integration with the AmpliTube range of products for live and real time use.
2010
iRig was the first guitar/bass interface and AmpliTube for iPhone/iPod Touch the first amp/fx system for iOS quickly exceeding a million downloads. It was soon followed by AmpliTube for iPad, AmpliTube Fender for iPhone/iPod Touch and AmpliTube Fender iPad.
2011
iRig Mic started 2011 off as the first handheld microphone for iOS devices followed with VocaLive, the first professional vocalist app for iOS. AmpliTube Custom Shop, the first tone shop integrated into a plug-in, also launched to worldwide acclaim. The Custom Shop allowed people the opportunity to buy new gear models from inside of AmpliTube, À la carte.
2012
iRig Keys, iRig MIX and DJ Rig helped catapult IK Multimedia into a standard for the modern mobile DJ and music producers. Bringing studio quality pianos and electric pianos to iOS devices. New iRig additions included iRig Mic Cast, iRig STOMP and iRig PRE which has been embraced by musicians on mobile platforms and DSLR photographers for adding hi end microphones to their mobile recording devices.
2013
iRig HD, the first digital interface for Apple's Lightning (connector) for iOS devices and Macbook/iMac compatibility was released. iRig Pro followed a few months after with XLR connector, 1/4" jack and MIDI input. The iKlip was updated for the new iPad sizes and released as the iKlip2. IK Multimedia's first full featured DAW for iOS was added to AmpliTube iOS and introduced as AmpliTube Studio. The Custom Shop continued with new additions from boutique audio companies such as Dr. Z Amplification, Fulltone, and Z.Vex Effects helping the Custom Shop reach over half a million users.
