Iain De Caestecker (born 29 December 1987)[1][2] is a Scottish actor, best known for his role as Agent Leo Fitz in the television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Early life
De Caestecker was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He has a twin sister and is one of four children. The son of two doctors,[3] his mother, Dr Linda de Caestecker, is Director of Public Health (DPH) for the National Health Service (NHS) Greater Glasgow and Clyde, the largest health board in Scotland. She has previously been an obstetrician and gynaecologist, working in different parts of the UK and in West Africa. She is also an honorary professor at the University of Glasgow.[4]

Career
De Caestecker began his acting career as a child. In 2000 he landed a minor role in comedy horror film The Little Vampire before appearing in the United Kingdom television shows Coronation Street and Lip Service.
The actor played the male lead in two high-profile BBC series — the BAFTA-winning “Best Drama Series” The Fades, as well as Young James Herriot for which he was nominated for a BAFTA Scotland Award for “Best Actor/Actress – Television”.[6] His thriller film In Fear, in which he played the co-lead opposite Alice Englert, premiered at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews. In that same year he could be seen in feature films Filth, with James McAvoy and Jim Broadbent, and Not Another Happy Ending opposite Karen Gillan. The latter earned him his second BAFTA Scotland Award nomination, this time in the “Best Actor/Actress – Film" category.
An emerging star in the UK, De Caestecker is quickly making a name for himself in the US. Upon his first trip to Los Angeles in 2012, the actor landed a series regular role on the much-anticipated Joss Whedon TV series Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..[7] The series takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following character Agent Phil Coulson and his small team of agents, De Caestecker's Leo Fitz among them. In 2014 De Caestecker received the SET Engineer Award for his role as Fitz, an engineer and weapons and technology expert at S.H.I.E.L.D.. The SET Awards honor excellence in science, engineering, and technology portrayal in the media and entertainment industries.[8] The actor has also drawn critical praise for his role, his performance being singled out by TV Line, Variety and Entertainment Weekly, among others.[9][10]
In 2016 De Caestecker’s S.H.I.E.L.D. character got animated for an episode of Disney XD's Marvel's Ultimate Spider-Man Vs. The Sinister 6, the actor lent his voice.[11]
After a comprehensive search, De Caestecker was cast in the lead role of Ryan Gosling’s feature directorial debut Lost River, with a cast including Saoirse Ronan, Christina Hendricks and Ben Mendelsohn.[12] The film premiered in competition in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival,[13] and was released in the United States on April 10, 2015.
In 2013, De Caestecker appeared in a music video for Gabrielle Aplin's song "Please Don't Say You Love Me".
