Ian Naismith

Ian Naismith (born in 1963) is a prolific composer, musician and surreal guitarist based in Texas and Florida. His music is deeply rooted in the style of ethno ambient which combines various influences of ethnic music and ambient music. He is also a follower of the "Fourth World" musical style which blends ancient/acoustic with the modern/technological. Other influences of progressive rock, jazz fusion, field recordings, and Musique concrète are prominent. He uses an unusual style of production by recording each take only once, thus giving each release a live improvisational setting. He also employs many different instruments around the world and recording settings to color the music. There is also a broad experimentation of polyrhythms and scales including tunings of equal temperament, just intonation, and brain neural oscillation tonalities. Technologically, there is extensive manipulating of impulse response, signal processing, granular synthesis, fractal sound, and databending.
