Ibrahim Ibrahimov

Ibrahim Ibrahimov (Azerbaijani: Hacı İbrahim Nehrəmli ;(born 1958 in Babek District, AR Nakhchivan, Azerbaijan), also known as Haji Ibrahim Nehramli, is a businessman from Azerbaijan, who is became famous by his project named Khazar Islands with a one kilometer high Azerbaijan Tower.[1]

Early life

Ibrahimov, aged 55, was born on May 28, 1958 in Nehram village of Babek region of the Nakhchivan AR, which is part of Azerbaijan. He finished a secondary school in Nehram. He graduated at the Faculty of Economy of the Nakhchivan State University.

He is married and has four children.

Business life

He constructed and repaired several mosques, historical monuments, hospitals, schools and other cultural institutions in his region. He improved infrastructure in the villages by building water pipes, bridges and streets. So he became one of the leading benefactors in Azerbaijan.

1991 after Azerbaijan won independence he founded the “Ilkan” construction company. During the following years he could expand his businesses.[2]

1995–2000 he was elected deputy to the parliament of AR Nakchivan. After this period he gave up his political activities.

1996 he could unite his various companies in the „Avesta concern“. which has relations with Russia, Turkey, Iran, Poland, Czech Republic, China, Korea and the United Emirates of Arabia. His greatest project is a big settlement near Baku on artificial islands at the coast of the Caspian Sea. The main attraction will be the world’s tallest tower with more than one kilometer height.[3]

For a good part he owed his success to Azerbaijan’s national hero Heydar Aliyev, who was in the early 1990s the head of the AR Nakhichevan. To him his father was allied. When Aliyev moved to Baku where he became president of Azerbaijan Ibrahimov expanded his business and transferred the headquarters of his holding to Baku. He himself lives in Garadagh, a district of Baku. He has still excellent relations to the presidential family. The current president Ilham Aliyev encouraged him to build the gigantic island project. The ideas came during his visits to Dubai.[4]

His brothers also hold leading positions in public life mostly in ATV channel.[5]

Like an oriental "Pasha" he is praised for his success, his business and philanthropic activities by two writers Farman Eyvazli and Teymur Bunyadov, who wrote a tale named "Haji Ibrahim Nehramli", another titled "In the top of mankind" by Abbas Seyidov and "Nehram and Nehramlilar" by Budag Budagov.[6]
