Ibusa Like-minds Association

The Ibusa Like-minds Association also known as ILA is an Ibusa-based youth organization founded by Florence Bob-Okonkwo and Emeka Esogbue of Ibusa origins, Philip Ngozi Ifechukwude is also one of the founding executives of the Association. The Association was founded in 2008 to promote development and unity in the community by re-orientation and empowering of the youths of the community through seminars, workshops, discussion forums, and lectures which the organization organizes from time to time. The Association is non-partisan, and members are made to understand that they can contribute towards the development of the town socially, economically and politically no matter how small.

Aims and objectives

According to Emeka Esogbue, the major objective of setting up the organization is to foster unity and brotherhood among the teeming youths of the community whether at home or in Diaspora who must recognize that Ibusa is one[1] Other aims of the organization are to promote socio-cultural advancepment of Ibusa and Anioma, educational and intellectual growth and development, youth empowerment through skills acquisition programs, economic development of Ibusa through encouragement of entrepreneurship and investments in the town among others.

History

Ibusa Like-minds Association was first named Association of Ibusa Professionals (AIPROF) at the early period of its existence but that name was later dropped for Ibusa Like-minds Association which it still bears till today following the existence of a similar Ibusa based-body called Body of Ibusa Professionals[2]

Secretariat

The secretariat of the organization is headed by the Chief-Scribe who acts as the General Secretary of ILA. Emeka Esogbue has been the Chief Scribe since the foundation of the organization. The Secretariat is the office from where circulars for the meeting and other correspondences of the Association emanates, the Chief Scribe is emerges through democratic elections. The secretariat of Ibusa Like-minds Association is located in Umuekea, Ibusa, Delta State, Nigeria

Membership

Membership of the Association is freely open to Ibusa indigenes who are willing to voluntarily contribute towards the development of Ibusa and make the town a viable, vibrant, peaceful and befitting place for all. Members are usually enjoined to have the interest of the town at heart.

Structure

The organization has the following executive positions:

Florence Bob-Okonkwo is currently the Mayor while Philip Ngozi Ifechukwude is the Convener of the Body. The Convener functions as the Public Relations Officer (PRO) who projects the image of the organization, and relates with the outside world on behalf of the Association.

Activities and Achievement

In January 2009, the Ibusa Like-minds Association held a Discussion Forum at the Ogbeowele Town Hall in which several personalities of Ibusa origin graced, the topic of the Discussion Forum was "Socio-Cultural Development of Ibusa: What is the Way Forward" Participants aired their views on a number of problems confronting the town and advanced suggestions on how the town could move ahead. It was announced by the Moderator at the discussion venue that a communique to that effect would be published in ICDU Newsletter in February same year[3]

The Association is also planning to organize seminar in which experts on violence and HIVAIDS related issues will deliver lectures to the youths of the town in a Secondary School in Ibusa on 28 March 2009.
