The Neighbourhood (sometimes rendered as "THE NBHD") is an American rock band formed in Newbury Park, California in 2011. The band is composed of vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Shane Abels, bassist Mikey Margott, and drummer Brandon Alexander Fried. After releasing three EPs, "I'm Sorry..." "The Love Collection" and Thank You, The Neighbourhood released their first full-length album, I Love You., on April 23, 2013, via Columbia Records.[3] In November 2014, they released a mixtape titled "#000000 & #FFFFFF". The band's second album Wiped Out! was released on October 30, 2015.

History

Formation and I Love You. (2011–2013)

The band members chose the British spelling of 'neighbourhood' on the advice of their manager, in order to distinguish themselves from a band already using the American spelling.

In early 2012, The Neighbourhood came together to release "Female Robbery" and "Sweater Weather".[4] In May 2012, the band unveiled a self-released free EP titled I'm Sorry.... The debut EP was produced by Justyn Pilbrow.[2] In December 2012, The Neighbourhood released their second EP entitled Thank You. It included the songs "Let It Go" and "A Little Death".

I Love You. was released on April 23, 2013 and debuted at number 39 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.[5] On June 27, 2013, they performed their lead single "Sweater Weather" on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "Sweater Weather" topped the charts in early June 2013, reaching number 1 on Billboard's alternative chart[6] and breaking the top ten on Billboard Heatseekers chart.[7] Rolling Stone debuted the world premiere of I Love You. on April 16, describing the album as "moody" and "atmospheric".[8]

The video for the first official single from I Love You., "Sweater Weather", was released on March 5, 2013.[9] The band is known for their black-and-white imagery, as seen throughout their music, artwork, and videos.[10]

The Love Collection comprised the three songs "West Coast", "No Grey", and "Sting". They were each released on 7" vinyls.

Mixtape and Wiped Out! (2014–present)

On January 16, 2014, the band revealed via social media that drummer Bryan Sammis was leaving the band.[11]

Their mixtape album titled #000000 & #FFFFFF (the HEX color codes for black and white, respectively) was released on the 28th of November 2014, after being delayed by a day due to final editing taking longer than expected.[12] "#000000 & #FFFFFF" is hosted by DJ Drama, featuring a blend of hip-hop and rock, and guest appearances by YG, Dej Loaf, French Montana, Danny Brown, G-Eazy and others.

In August 2015, the band announced the upcoming October 30 release of their second album Wiped Out!, with the lead single R.I.P. 2 My Youth. The band later released singles "The Beach" and "Prey" before releasing the full-length album October 31, 2015. The album includes 11 tracks: "A Moment of Silence", "Prey", "Cry Baby", "Wiped Out!", "The Beach", "Daddy Issues", "Baby Came Home 2/Valentines" ,"Greetings from Califournia", "Ferrari", "Single" and "R.I.P. 2 My Youth"
