Ignatius Behnam Hadliyo
Ignatius Behnam Hadliyo was the Patriarch of Antioch, and head of the Syriac Orthodox Church from 1445 until his death in 1454.
Biography
Behnam was born in the village of Hedel, near Esfes, into the Habbo Kanni family. He became a monk at the Monastery of Mor Gabriel and was later ordained as a priest there. In 1404 Behnam was consecrated as Maphrian under the name of Basilius, and was elevated to Patriarch of Mardin as Ignatius on the 24th of July 1412.
After the death of Patriarch Baselius IV Simon, Behnam convinced the diocese of Antioch to proclaim him as legitimate patriarch and in 1445 became Patriarch of Antioch. He was a prolific poet and great writer, composing a total of eleven odes.[1]
