Ila Pant is an Indian politician who was a Member of Parliament in 12th Lok Sabha from Nainital (Lok Sabha constituency) of Uttarakhand[1] region of then undivided Uttar Pradesh.
Early life
Ila Pant was born in Nainital on March 10. Ila grew up in Nainital (Uttarakhand) where she completed her schooling. Ila moved to Allahabad to complete her Bachelor of Arts from the University at Allahabad.
Personal life and family
Ila Pant is the daughter-in-law of Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant. Ila Pant is the daughter of Shobha and Govind Ballabh Pande and is married to Krishna Chandra Pant, Former Defence Minister. She has two sons.
Politics
Ila Pant defeated Union Minister and former Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari in a high voltage contest in 1998. As BJP candidate, Ila Pant got 2,92,761 votes while Congress candidate ND Tiwari lost by a margin of 15,577 votes.[2] Ila Pant became the first ever woman member to be elected from Nainital Parliamentary Constituency.
