Ilmajoki (Finnish pronunciation: [ˈilmɑjoki], Swedish: Ilmola [ilmolɑ]) is a municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The population of Ilmajoki is 12,181 (30 June 2015)[2] and the municipality covers an area of 576.79 km2 (222.70 sq mi) of which 2.90 km2 (1.12 sq mi) is inland water (1 January 2011).[1] The population density is 21.12/km2 (54.7/sq mi).
The municipality is unilingually Finnish.
Some notable persons originally from Ilmajoki include javelin thrower Tero Pitkämäki,[6] wrestler Marko Yli-Hannuksela,[7] ethnomusicologist Martti Erik Ala-Könni, and the historical figure Jaakko Ilkka.[8]
The Seinäjoki Airport is located in Ilmajoki. Flybe Nordic has its head office by the airport.[9]
