Image of the Virgin Mary Mother of God of Guadalupe

Image of the Virgin Mary Mother of God of Guadalupe is a book published in 1648 to help to enrich the marian veneration in the Mexico City, New Spain. It was drafted by the bachiller Miguel Sánchez with dedication to the bishop Don Pedro of Barrientos, basing in the prophecy of the Apocalypse 12.[1][2]

Importance

The text is considered foundational of the devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico, where the beliefs where spread by written until the moment just had transmitted of oral way.[3] The text informs for the first time that the venerated image by Mexicans it is of miracle origin and marks the dates of Guadalupana appearances were comprised between 9 and 13 December 1531. In this way, the guadalupana image were established as true symbol of the mexicanidad.[3]

Thanks to this work, Miguel Sánchez was referred by Francisco de la Maza as one of the "four guadalupan evangelists".[4]
