In Our Water is a 1982 American documentary film directed by Meg Switzgable, about a family in South Brunswick, New Jersey who discover their drinking water is contaminated by a nearby landfill. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.[1]
Overview
The film focuses on the Kaler family in South Brunswick, New Jersey. They get their water from their own water well, as do their neighbors. The Kalers realize that their water is contaminated from a landfill and seek to get the government to fix the problem. Their initial attempts to contact the state Department of Environmental Protection to act are rebuffed. Mr. Kaler eventually goes to Washington DC to a Congressional hearing, which ends up contributing to higher standards. Eventually, the Kaler family and their neighbors get their houses hooked up to the South Brunswick Water Supply.
