Ina Zdorovetchi (born 1981) is a Moldovan-born American harpist. She is the winner of the Seventeenth International Harp Contest in Israel - the most prestigious international harp competition in the world - having received the highest awarded prize (II), the special prize for the best performance of Chamber Music and the special prize for the best interpretation of the new music piece by Yitzhak Yedid. In June of 2009 she was granted USA permanent residency under the E-11 category as an Alien with Extraordinary Ability in the Arts and became an American citizen in February of 2015.
Early life and education
Zdorovetchi was born in 1981 in Bender, Moldova, into a family of non-musicians. She started learning the piano at the age of 5 and within a short time she was admitted to the "Ciprian Porumbescu" Music Lyceum, the country's premiere boarding school for musically gifted children, in the city of Chisinau. While continuing to study piano at a professional level with celebrated professor Larisa Jar, she also fell in love with the harp, and was the first student in the history of the school to take on a second instrument as her major. Her harp professor was Ana Mahonina. During the 10 years spent at the lyceum, Zdorovetchi participated in many piano competitions and won numerous top prizes. She was often featured as soloist (both on the piano and harp) with the country's top orchestras: The National Philharmonic, Radio & Television Orchestra and frequently appeared on the city's main concert stages.
From 1999 - 2001 she attended the National University of Music in Bucharest initially as a double-major (piano and harp) student and eventually transitioned to harp only. While in Bucharest she served as the piano accompanist for the Conductors Class under the distinguished professor Dumitru Goia and often performed as an accompanist for the cello studio. In 2002, she transferred to continue her Bachelor of Music at the Boston Conservatory. Upon graduation with Summa Cum Laude honors, she went on to earn a Masters Degree at the Boston University (with honors) and a Performance Diploma at New England Conservatory of Music.
