Inam Kulathur

Inam Kulathur ( இனாம் குளத்தூர்) is a historic village near Tiruchirappalli District. It is also called Vellang Kulathur and Namana Samuthiram. This area was fully covered by an agricultural reservoir, so this village name is called Kulathur. There are now a single large lake of approximately 300 acres and several ponds near the village. Inam Kulathur also refers to the surrounding area. There are 10,000 peoples are living in the village.

Inam Kulathur has been ruled, at different times, by the Early Cholas, Early Pandyas, Later Cholas, Delhi Sultanate, Madurai Sultanate, Arcot Nawab and the British, prior to the formation of the Republic of India. Tiruchirappalli played a critical role in the Ponnar - Sangar history.

Inam Kulathur is an industrial and educational hub of Trichy. The factories of Indian Oil Corporation Bottling Point and Janani Marbles and granites are located in Inam Kulathur. Bharathidasan University of constitute college (BDU), R.V.S International school and Management, The New Polytechnic college, H.M.Y Government Higher Secondary School are located in the town. A popular local dish is briyani.
