The Onafhankelijke Burger Partij (English: Independent Citizens' Party, OBP) is a political party in the Netherlands. The party was founded by Hero Brinkman, a Member of the House of Representatives for the Party for Freedom (PVV). Brinkman left the Party for Freedom after he had repeatedly criticised the lack of democracy within the party as well as their negative generalisations about certain groups in society. He founded the Independent Citizens' Party and was going to participate in the Dutch general election of 2012 but on June 9, 2012 he announced that the Independent Citizens' Party was merging with the Trots op Nederland party to form a new party; the Democratic Political Turning Point.[2][3] However, Trots op Nederland announced on November 17th that the merger with the Onafhankelijke Burger Partij to the Democratisch Politiek Keerpunt would become dissolved because the Trots' management was unsatisfied.
