Independiente FC is a Salvadoran football club.

The club did not register to compete in the second division Segunda División de Fútbol Salvadoreño after being relegated in May 2007, so therefore they are inactive now. They were formerly known as Independiente de San Vicente or Coca Cola.

History

Independiente FC

Independiente had their most successful seasons in the 1980 and 1982 campaign, where they reached the final of the Primera division thanks to the support of the players such as Óscar “Lotario” Guerrero, Mandingo Rivas, Ramon Maradiaga, and various other players but however they were defeated both times by Atletico Marte.[1]

Independiente Nacinal 1906

The owners of Coca Cola football decided to change name to Nacional 1906 and through a partnership with Independiente San Vicente were reformed to Independiente Nacional 1906.[2] Independiente Nacional won promotion in 2006 to Salvadoran Premier League, however due to poor results the team was relegated from the primera division after just one season.[3] They then failed to register for the new season in summer 2007 for failing to meet their financial obligations and were kept on hiatus for five years.[4]

Modern History

After a five-year hiatus, the club was resurrected and began playing in Tercera division for 2013 and they stayed there for three years. Despite being a top side they just didn't have the personnel to win qualification to Segunda Division. However, for the 2015 Apertura season, The segunda division went through a reconstruction which include adding an extra 6 teams to the competition and thanks to financial support for the woners and the community of san vicente, the club was able to purchase a license to be able to comeepete in the segunda for the first time in 10 years.
