The Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists (IACC), based in Kerala, India, is a nonprofit medical association established in 2008. The IACC confers upon cardiovascular specialists who meet its qualifications. Its mission is to promote clinical cardiology, preventive cardiology and continuing medical education interests of clinical cardiologists across the country who promote primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease and develop cardiovascular health and care in rural areas.[1][2] As of 2015, there more than 2600 cardiovascular professionals that represents the membership organization.

History

The IACC was founded in 2008 and its headquarters is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Dr. Rajesh Rajan is the President of the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologists.[3][4][5] The first national annual scientific sessions of Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologist conference (IACCCON) was held in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala during April 2010.[6][7] The official journal of the Indian Association of Clinical Cardiologist is the Indian Journal of Clinical Cardiology.[8]

Leadership

The IACC is governed by its officers, including the President, General Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Executive members. Members of the Board of executives serve as grassroots liaisons between the local chapters and the association. Governing Body as follows :

Members

The IACC has approximately 2600 members, including physicians, cardiac surgeons, clinical cardiologists and doctors specializing in the field of cardiovascular medicine. Becoming a Fellow of the Indian Association Of Clinical Cardiologist (FIACC), Annual member, Life member or Associate Members is based on specialists in cardiovascular health and diseases, specialty board certification, scientific and professional accomplishments and duration of active participation in a cardiovascular related field.[12]

Clinical Practice Guidelines

The IACC shares various Clinical Practice Guidelines for the clinical cardiology profession from evidence-based clinical trials data.[13] Importance of Guidelines-based treatment which aim to present all the relevant evidence on a particular clinical issue in order to help physicians weigh the benefits and risks of particular diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.[14]

Chapters

The association has 12 state chapters. All IACC State Chapters are controlled and guided by the parent body, but they are legally distinct entities from national IACC.[6][15][16]

Partners and Affiliates

IACC has strong ties with the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology. Internationally, the IACC represents India at the World Heart Federation. It also affiliated to the European Society of Cardiovascular Surgery.[17][18]
