Indignation is a 2016 American drama film, directed and written by James Schamus, making his feature directorial debut, and based on the Philip Roth novel Indignation (2008). The film is set mostly in Ohio, in the early 1950s, and stars Logan Lerman, Sarah Gadon, Pico Alexander, Danny Burstein, Linda Emond, and Ben Rosenfield. The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2016.[1] The film is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2016, by Roadside Attractions.[2]

- Sarah Gadon as Olivia Hutton, a college student from a wealthy family[3]
- Pico Alexander as Sonny Cottler, a student from an upper-class Jewish family
- Danny Burstein as Max Messner, a kosher butcher and Marcus's father[4]
- Linda Emond as Esther Messner, Max's wife and Marcus's mother[4]
- Tracy Letts as Hawes D. Caudwell, the college's dean[4]
- Ben Rosenfield as Bertram Flusser
Production
Casting
Logan Lerman and Sarah Gadon were announced as cast in the film on April 6, 2015.[3] The casting of Danny Burstein, Linda Emond, and Tracy Letts in supporting roles was announced on June 15, 2015. Lerman will also serve as one of the film's executive producers.[4]
Filming
Principal photography began on June 15, 2015, in New York City.[4]
Release
The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2016.[5] It was also screened in the Panorama section of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival.[6] Shortly after the film's premiere, Summit Entertainment acquired North American rights to the film for $2.5 million.[7] It was later revealed that Roadside Attractions would distribute the film instead on July 29, 2016.[8]
