Inez De Florio-Hansen
Inez De Florio-Hansen (born 1943) is a German applied linguist whose work focuses on foreign language learning and teaching of (French, Italian and more recently English) as well as on inter and transcultural competence and multilingualism. Her research interests include curriculum design and methodology, especially ICT and multiliteracies. A further focus is on linguistic minorities, particularly migrant students of Turkish origin.
Career
After graduating from university, Florio-Hansen taught French, Italian and Latin at the secondary school level as well as in adult education. She then worked at the education ministry in the German state of Hesse as adviser and teacher trainer for teachers of migrant students.
She received her Ph.D in French Literature from the University of Aachen in Germany in 1971.[1] Her post-doctoral thesis at Goethe University in Frankfurt was a study of vocabulary acquisition of adult learners.[2]
After teaching at various German universities, she held a chair as Professor of Applied Linguistics (Romance Languages) at the University of Erfurt, Germany, between 1994 and 1996.
In 1996, she became a Professor of Foreign Language Pedagogy and Intercultural Communication at the University of Kassel, Germany, retiring in 2008.[3]
Publications
Florio-Hansen has published several books, more than a hundred featured articles in journals, a series of textbooks on French and Italian and other teaching material.
In 2011, she was honored with a Festschrift covering many fields of her research.[4][5][6]
