Informatica is a software development company founded in 1993. It is headquartered in Redwood City, California.[2] It was founded by Gaurav Dhillon[3] and Diaz Nesamoney.[4] Anil Chakravarthy is the company's CEO.[2]

History

The company was founded in 1993.

On April 29, 1999, it went public on NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the stock symbol INFA.

On April 7, 2015, Permira and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board announced that a company controlled by the Permira funds and CPPIB has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Informatica for approximately US$5.3 billion.[5]

On August 6, 2015, Informatica announced completion of acquisition with Microsoft and Salesforce Ventures joined as strategic investors. The company's stock ceased trading on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol INFA effective on the same date.[6][7][8] In December 2015, Gartner recognized Informatica in its December 2015 Magic Quadrant for Data Masking Technology report.[9]

Products

Informatica's product is a portfolio focused on data integration: ETL, information lifecycle management, B2B data exchange, cloud data integration, complex event processing, data masking, data quality, data replication, data virtualization, master data management, ultra messaging. These components form a toolset for establishing and maintaining enterprise-wide data warehouses. It has a customer base of over 5,000 companies.[2][10]

In 2006, Informatica launched its Informatica Cloud business.[11]

In 2010, the Informatica Marketplace was launched offering a data integration eco-system for Partners, Customers, Developers and Informatica to share and leverage data integration solutions.[12] As of September 2014, it features over 1,300 pre-built mappings, templates, connectors and add-ons for Informatica data integration and cloud data integration products.[13]

Architecture

It is a service oriented Architecture and has the capability to share service and resource across several machines.[14] Informatica ETL product, known as Informatica Power Center consists of 3 main components.

  1. Informatica Power Center Client Tools: These are the development tools installed at developer end. These tools enable a developer to
    • Define transformation process, known as mapping. (Designer)
    • Define run-time properties for a mapping, known as sessions (Workflow Manager)
    • Monitor execution of sessions (Workflow Monitor)
    • Manage repository, useful for administrators (Repository Manager)
    • Report Metadata (Metadata Reporter)
  2. Informatica Power Center Repository: Repository is the backend of Informatica tools. Repository is a data inventory where all the data related to mappings, sources, targets etc. is kept. This is the place where all the metadata for an application is stored. All the client tools and Informatica Server fetch data from Repository.
  3. Informatica Power Center Server: In the Server, all the executions take place. Server makes physical connections to sources/ targets, fetches data, applies the transformations mentioned in the mapping and loads the data in the target system.

Types of transformations

Also, Active transformation are recognized by any of the following three factors:

A transformation which has these properties is said to be an "active transformation", otherwise it is said to be a "passive transformation".
