Inteliquent (formerly Neutral Tandem, Inc.), established in 2003, provides wholesale voice and interconnection services for carriers and service providers, and is used by wireless carriers, cable companies and CLECs. Headquartered in Chicago, Inteliquent is a public company and traded on the NASDAQ under the symbol IQNT.[1]

History

In 2003, Neutral Tandem created the first independent tandem network. This network streamlined the way wireless, cable, CLEC and broadband telephony companies routed local transit traffic between one another. In 2006, Neutral Tandem installed a national IP backbone and extended its reach by interconnecting 179 markets. In 2008, Neutral Tandem began offering terminating switched access services and originating switched access services, which are provided in connection with long distance calls. In June 2010 Neutral Tandem was named no. 2 on Crain’s Fast 50 (fastest-growing companies by five-year revenue growth). In October 2010 Neutral Tandem completed acquisition of Tinet SpA, an Italian-based global carrier in the IP Transit and Ethernet wholesale market.[2] By December 31, 2010, Neutral Tandem network billed minutes of 108.5 billion in 2010, an increase of 23.5% over 2009; and experienced revenue of $199.8 million in 2010, an increase of 18.3% compared to $168.9 million in 2009.

In February 2011 Neutral Tandem was named no. 2 on Forbes’ annual Top 25 Fastest Growing Technology Companies in America. In April 2011 the company launched a product called EtherCloud.[3] In June, the Crain’s Fast Fifty awards ranked Neutral Tandem No. 12 on the list of fastest-growing companies in Chicago. By August Neutral Tandem provided HD Voice interconnection solutions for service providers. In September Neutral Tandem ranked 59 on Fortune Magazine’s 2011 list of “100 Fastest-Growing Companies". In October Forbes Magazine named Neutral Tandem 38 on its list of America’s Best Small Companies[4] and the HD Voice Interconnection Service earned a 2011 Internet Telephony Excellence Award. In November Neutral Tandem/Tinet won Capacity Magazine's 2011 Best Market Innovation Award. Neutral Tandem and Cisco announced Cloud-Based Unified Communications, using Cisco’s Hosted Collaboration Solution platform.

In January 2012 was Neutral Tandem awarded Atlantic-ACM 2012 Global Wholesale “Best in Class” Award for Provisioning. In February Neutral Tandem and Tinet were formally rebranded as Inteliquent.[5][6] In June Inteliquent was awarded Crain's Chicago Business "Fast Fifty" Award (No. 21)[7]

In January 2013 Inteliquent was awarded Atlantic ACM 2013 Global Wholesale "Best in Class" awards for Billing, Customer Service, Sales Reps, Provisioning, Network Performance and Data Value. In May Inteliquent sold the Tinet data business to Global Telecom & Technology for $54.5 million, returning to its voice business.[8]
