International American University is a non-accredited [1] private for-profit university of higher learning offering programs through both distance education and classroom instruction. The University started operations in 2005 in Los Angeles, as the Management Institute of America, Inc. It currently operates from facilities in Palmdale, California and Los Angeles, California.[2]
On July 2006, it acquired approval to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE) to grant degrees under the provisions of the California Education Code, Section 94900. In January 2010, the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) replaced the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education. International American University is currently licensed by the BPPE.[3]
In Dec 2011, International American University received its full re-approval to operate by the State of California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE) to grant degrees under the provisions of the California Education Code. The approval is valid for 5 years from Dec 15, 2011 - Dec 14, 2016.

Leadership
Dr. Stephen Tvorik [4][5] was appointed as the President of IAU in March 2010. He has a corporate sales and marketing background. Dr. Tvorik has a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from Walden University (Minnesota); an M.B.A. from the University of LaVerne, an M.A. in Art History from New Mexico State University, a B.F.A. in photography, and a B.S.Ed. in Education from Ohio University.
Dr. Langvardt serves as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the International American University. He joined IAU as a member of the adjunct faculty in 2008. During his thirty year career in the technology sector, Dr. Langvardt served in various sales, business development, marketing and management roles both domestically and abroad. He worked for such companies as Compaq, IBM Corporation, NCR Corporation and Sun Microsystems. Dr. Langvardt received his B.A. degree in psychology from Valparaiso University while specializing in Asian studies. He earned his M.B.A. degree specializing in international business from Thunderbird School of Global Management. In 2007, he achieved his Ph.D. in Organization and Management specializing in e-business from Capella University.
History
The International American University started operations in 2005 in Los Angeles as the Management Institute of America. It currently operates from facilities in Palmdale, California and Los Angeles, California.[2] According to its newsletter, the university [2] received its initial approval for the name change on July 6, 2006 and conducted its first graduation ceremony in Malaysia on April 1, 2007. This was only 8 months after its temporary approval. During its commencement ceremony, 85 students received their degrees.
March 2009: International American University received its approval by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to accept and enroll foreign, non-immigrant F-1 students for academic degrees.
January 2008: International American University relocated its administrative office from Los Angeles to Palmdale, CA. International American University establishes CAS Academy, a department under the School of Business and Technology.
September 2006: Management Institute of America, Inc. legally changed its name to the International American University (IAU).
July 2006: Management Institute of America, Inc sought California State approval to legally change its name to the International American University (IAU)in 2006.
August 2005: Management Institute of America, Inc. is incorporated in the State of California as a private proprietary corporation, duly formed and organized under the laws and regulations of the Secretary of State for the State of California.
Accreditation status
International American University's website states that it is legally operating in California as an educational institution authorized to grant all degrees and/or offer credentials as indicated on its website / catalog. According to the University, it has a governing board with legal and fiduciary responsibility to exercise appropriate oversight over institutional integrity, policies, resource development, and ongoing operations. The University was approved on March 6, 2009 by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to accept and enroll foreign, non-immigrant F-1 students for academic degrees.[2]
International American University is not accredited[1] by any higher education accreditation organization recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). The use of unaccredited degree titles is legally restricted or illegal in some jurisdictions.[6] Jurisdictions that have restricted or made illegal the use of credentials from unaccredited schools include Oregon,[1][7] Michigan, Maine,[8] North Dakota,[7] New Jersey,[7] Washington,[1][9] Nevada,[1] Illinois,[1] Indiana[1] and Texas.[10] Many other states are also considering restrictions on unaccredited degree use in order to help prevent fraud.[11]
