The International Institute of Rural Reconstruction or IIRR is a rural development organization which has over half a century of participatory, integrated and people-centered development in the continents of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. It was established by Dr. Y. C. James Yen in 1960.[1] Its programs cover education, food security and asset building, environment, and applied learning.[2] It also provides international and customized courses and training covering various themes, including, natural resources and food security, gender and development, business development, organizational development, and participatory approaches.[3]
Headquarters
The Y.C. James Yen Center occupies an area of 54 hectares[4] along the boundary of the municipality of Silang and the City of Dasmariñas in Cavite, Philippines. It includes a number of classrooms, function halls, apartments, and hostels.[5]
Regional Centers and Countries Served
The Headequarters in the Philippines also serves as the Regional Center for Asia. As of 2013, aside from the Philippines, IIRR also serves the country of Cambodia. In the past, it focused also on the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, East Timor, India, Indonesia, Laos, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The Regional Ceter for Africa is located in Nairobi, Kenya, which also serves the countries of Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Prior to this, IIRR served the Latin American countries of Colombia, Ecuador, Honduras, and Peru.[6]
