ISS International School (ISS) in Singapore was founded in 1981. ISS is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and offers IB curriculum from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Campuses

The schools has two campuses:
Paterson Campus, the Elementary and Middle School, on Paterson Road. This campus has facilities such as a hockey/four square court, two basketball courts and a field.
Preston Campus, the High School that is about a 10-minute drive from the Paterson Campus, on top of a hill surrounded by wildlife. The Preston Campus has two outdoor basketball courts, a fitness center, three IT labs, science labs, and classrooms.

History

The campus at Preston Road was a military outpost used by the British Army when Singapore was under British colonial rule, until the withdrawal of British forces in 1971. The school is on the site of the former Alexandra Grammar School which was attended mainly by the children of serving British military personnel serving in Singapore.[2]

Academics

ISS is one of Singapore's IB schools. The school is authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Program, Middle Years Program, and Diploma Program .[3] ISS is the only school in Singapore and one of the few in the world that uses the IB curriculum as its sole framework and does not mix and match with other curricula.

Every year in the Middle School and High school there is an Activity week, and there are smaller scale field trips throughout the school year at all levels.

ISS is an Apple Macintosh platform school, with full migration of computer labs complete by August 2010, with computer labs and a laptop program. The school uses StudyWiz and Managebac as its e-learning platforms.

Activities

Athletics

Season one is mainly basketball and football. Season two has badminton, volleyball and rugby, among other sports in both seasons. In elementary school, there is a sports day and swimming gala.

Theater

The school has a Drama and Theater program, exploring Theater traditions from around the world. At least once a year, students are given the opportunity to work at a professional venue in Singapore, like The Theater Company, which has produced a wide variety of plays. Past productions include plays by John Godber, Arthur Miller, and Dennis Potter, at venues such as The DBS Theater and The Jubilee Hall.

Activity Week

Every year students have a week of school where they learn a new skill or have an enriching experience overseas or in Singapore, such as scuba diving, biking or hiking, eco innovation, theater, and video production.

Student government

Student Council (SC), a link from students to teachers. Each homeroom consisting of about 14 students has two representatives- a deputy and vice-deputy SC/Homeroom representative.

Accreditation

ISS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges since February 2005.[4] It is a member of the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools since 1996 [5] and a member school of the Council of International Schools (CIS).[6] It is also recognized by the Ministry of Education (Singapore).

The school is preparing for approval for a joint CIS/WASC/IBO Accreditation year in 2012.
