Internships.com is a Burbank, California-based web venture that is part of CareerArc Group, focused on providing internship resources and services for students, employers and educators. The site offers free internship searching, posting and a library of resources from career experts as well as a researched guide on U.S. intern hiring laws. As of October 2010, the company had offices in Burbank and Boston, Massachusetts. Its mission statement is to "Build the premier internship marketplace to strengthen tomorrow’s workforce." [1]

History

This www.Internships.com site, originally started by Mark Robinholt of American Campus Company in 1997, was used to sell 3-ring binders of aggregated internship listings to campus and university career centers throughout the United States. These "Internship Guides" became popular in career center libraries as more and more students found the need and desire for a qualified internship.

In 2003, Mason Gates, via his company InternDirect, took over management of the website in partnership with Mr. Robinholt and American Campus. He endeavored to expand the offerings to the web-enabled audience of Employers, Students and Career Centers via subscriptions, registering only 39 students in the first full month of operations. By 2008,[2] Gates had purchased the entire business and website as it became more popular, successful and profitable amongst the growing legions of participants in the internship arena. In October 2009, Gates successfully divested of the entire business and site to Robin Richards and his company, CareerArc Group, remaining for two more years as Internships.com continued to grow. At the time of Gates' departure, the site was registering a new student every few seconds and a new business every few minutes.[3]

The revised site launched in early 2010.[4] as an entirely free resource and internship search engine, then added a paid "Premium Advantage" student membership during the summer touting featured search and resume placement, a corporate directory and its proprietary "Intern Certification Program," among other listed services.

As of May 1, 2012, the site featured more than 65,000 internships in the United States and abroad. [5]

In 2014, Internships.com became part of the Chegg family.
