Intrepid has purchase commitments from Airbus and Boeing with an accumulated value of $4.7 billion,[4] including a 2007 order for 20 Airbus SAS A330-200 freighters,[1] and a 2014 order for 6 Boeing 777-300ER.[5] It is owned by Centerbridge Partners and Reservoir Capital Group.[6]

History

Intrepid Aviation was founded by Ron Anderson in 1994. The company started by buying used passenger planes and having them converted into cargo freighters for leasing.[1] During the 2008 Financial Crisis, Intrepid had to negotiate delaying deliveries by three years.[1]

In 2014, the company filed for an IPO with a fundraising target of $150 million.[6][2] The Company currently has equity commitments of up to $650 million from existing shareholders.[7] Olaf Sachau is its CEO.[1]

Fleet

The Intrepid Aviation fleet includes passenger aircraft such as the Airbus A330-300 and Airbus A330-200, Boeing 777-300ER and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. It also owns A321-200 narrow-body aircraft.[8]

The company's customers include Alitalia, China Airlines, Air France, KLM, Thai Airways, Sichuan Airlines, Philippine Airlines, EVA Air, Cebu Pacific, and Ethiopian Airlines, in a market where 40% of all commercial aircraft is under lease, compared to less than 2 percent in 1980.[9][6][2][10][11][12]

Intrepid leased several Airbus A330 aircraft to Japanese low-cost carrier Skymark Airlines, and became the largest creditor of Skymark when the airline filed for bankruptcy protection in 2015.[13]
